Classes
Below is information about the available classes students can take through South Sutter Charter School, and privately through Zoom. Links to sign up are present as well.
The Structure of Elysium's Star Classes:
My full classes last eleven weeks, but clients can take certain lessons separately if desired. Ex: If a client is unsure about taking my entire Color Theory class due to their schedule, they can pay for a singular three-hour lesson and choose which lesson from the Color Theory syllabus.

Classes are organized in this manner:

1. A re-cap on homework: meeting the student where they're at, and adjusting the lesson's information to their understanding.

2. A lecture/presentation: sharing historical context, science, and techniques regarding the theme of the lesson.

3. Demonstration/discussion: I (the Tutor), will demonstrate techniques or upcoming activities or have a discussion with the student to keep us both in an understanding of each other and the goal of the class.

4. Exercise: Students will begin their exercises to help them extend their creative abilities and practice creating artwork. Students can create with their tutor or continue in their own time.
My Open Classes
Portrait Drawing (Ages 13+)
This class is for students looking into studying techniques to draw realistic faces. I will share diagrams, art fundamentals, demonstrations, and personal/teaching experiences that I've had that showed me how to make proportionally accurate faces and to understand the importance of the concept of value.
The Structure of This Class:
I will start with a simple overview of design fundamentals, and diagrams I use and study within my own work. After presenting diagrams, I share common mistakes made by beginning portrait artists, calling this section of the class "Do's and Donts". I find this part of the class the second most effective for learning, with the first effective being my demonstrations.
I mainly focus on my demonstrations, because they are the most helpful to beginner portrait artists, due to being able to see how I use the technique. I enjoy drawing alongside the students, with the technique I provided them. Because I use this technique myself, I am able to see what works successfully and what can be fixed in my method.

Thinking Outside the Box: Intro to Surrealism (Ages 13+)
This class consists of studying the surrealist genre of the 1920s and learning techniques, exercises, and information to extend creative thinking patterns in students and become intact with the right side of the brain. The older we get, we are told to disregard our imagination and creative thinking skills, and they are labeled 'childish' and 'unimportant' in 'real life'. However, the most influential people are those intact with their subconscious thoughts, emotions, and imagination. The Surrealist movement didn't start with anti-creative-thinkers after all.

The Structure of This Class:
Typically, a lesson will begin with a discussion regarding the historical context of surrealism, the science behind creative thinking, and how visual illusions and bizarre artistry work. For example, my lecture part of the class for 'Fever Dream Art' discusses why fever dreams are so bizarre using science references, and we move on to the exercise related to the topic.
If you are struggling with thinking outside the box, coming up with personal and individually creative ideas for your work, or you are just interested in the Surrealist genre, this class is for you. No prior technique studying or knowledge is necessary, just be interested in imaginative art!
Color Theory
This class contains sessions with information on psychology, relationships, symbology, and the science of color. Students will learn how to use color in visual arts through lecture presentations and artistic exercises.

The Structure of This Class:

Classes will begin with a discussion on the science of Color-Theory, and a talk regarding techniques to create good color interactions/ manipulate color. I often share slideshow presentations for visual learning. The class will then move on to see a demonstration led by me regarding the exercises students will do at the end of the class (Ex: if students are required to do a color wheel, I'll show them how to do so first). Lastly, students will complete the exercises and review them with me with any questions/testimonies.
